The Rotary Club of Hill-top Calabar has donated educational and instructional materials worth thousands of Naira to pupils of St. Peter primary school Oban oil palm estate in Akamkpa local government area of Cross River state.
Speaking during the presentation of the educational materials, the Club’s President, Rotarian Engr. Nsed Akunjom who was ably represented by Past Assistant Governor Iniekong Essien, informed the staff and pupils that “the sorry state of the school and absolute lack of infrastructure had motivated the club to come to the aid of the young lads”.
Akunjom, therefore appealed to government, corporate bodies as well as other well spirited individuals to partner with Rotary to better the lives of our future leaders.
The project, he noted was carried out as part of the club’s literacy promotion programmes.
In his response to the presentation, the Managing Director of BJ Farms Oban Mr Veejee, the Head Teacher of the school , staff and pupils applauded the kind gesture of the club and thanked them earnestly for coming to the aid of the pupils as most of them never had writing materials.
This singular act, he further said calls for emulation from government, corporate bodies as well as on other organizations to operating within Cross River state.
Earlier, Elder Rotarian Dan Nicholas, had said that the exercise was in line with Rotary Club globally to reach out to as many that are less privileged as part of its service to humanity.
He further said Rotary Motto “is service above self” and that is the reason why members go extra miles in reaching out to the needy in our localities during her service year.
According to him, “there is no inconclusive election in Rotary Club. The 2025/2026 Rotary year begins from July 1st 2025 and already we know who will take over from Chidimma as next President.
Members of the Club in their numbers drove through the dust to the school and did the presentation in a colourful ceremony.
They pupils received members of Rotary Club with excitement and joy over the presentation of educational materials to them.
The ceremony was colourful so to say in far interior part of Oban in Akamkpa local government area of Cross River state.
