A combined team of security operatives have stormed an abandoned hospital in Iso-Bendeghe village, Boki local government area of Cross River State where hoodlums use as hideout and made some recovery of arms and ammunition
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid Afegbua ordered the operation which was led by the Boki Divisional Police Officer (DPO).
This operation, led to the discovery of a significant arsenal and other evidence linking the location to criminal activities.
Recovered items includes five locally-made firearms, expended cartridges, Machetes and wooden clubs, Motorcycles suspected to be used for operations, Cooking utensils and alcohol bottles, Dangerous charms and personal belongings.
The raid was triggered by a late-night attack on August 5, 2025, when armed assailants ambushed the 75 PMF Patrol Team in Iso-Bendeghe, destroying a police vehicle before fleeing into the forest. Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Irene Ugbo confirmed that the hoodlums had been using the area as a hideout.
“The operation was part of an ongoing manhunt for the perpetrators, who are also prime suspects in last month’s violent unrest in Iso-Bendeghe,” Ugbo stated. Soldiers from the 245 Battalion in Ikom reinforced the operation, forcing the criminals to abandon their camp and flee upon sighting the security team.
Ugbo reassured residents of enhanced security measures and warned that attacks on law enforcement would not be tolerated. “We urge the public to remain calm and continue their daily activities without fear, as we have intensified patrols and intelligence operations in the area,” she added.
The crackdown underscores the police command’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks and restore order in the region. Investigations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.
