The Cross River State Emergency Response committee has been inaugurated by the State government.
Performing the ceremony, the State Acting Governor, Dr Peter Odey charged the committee members to appreciate their task from the humanitarian angle and exhibit passion for the service.
The Acting Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Prof. Tony Owan Enoh said that the committee should critically examine the huge disaster portfolio of the state and evolve ways of addressing the menace frontally.
He assured that the present state government’s will to galvanized relevant resources to ensure the progress of Cross River State Emergency Management Agency was paramount.
He appealed to all the disaster management stakeholders to collaborate with SEMA for hitch free operations in the state.
In a welcome address, the Director General, Cross River State Emergency Management Agency, Mr Antigha Edem Gill said that the inauguration of the committee was a move in tandem with the pragmatism of the state Governor, Prince Bassey Edet Otu.
Painting the precarious picture of disaster management of the state he pointed out that the committee work would be a pivot to addressing the phenomenal rise in disaster events in the state.
The SEMA DG expressed the hope that the government zeal so far demonstrated would shore up SEMA activities in the state. He appealed for adequate funding, staffing, vehicles and office equipment.
The event was attended by about 30 stakeholders across the different sectors of the economy.
